Emerson Athlete Amanda Benavente Earns All-Academic, All-Conference Honors in Women's Soccer
Junior Amanda Benavente was truly indispensable for the Lions' Women's Soccer team defense this year. Along with becoming a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference All-Academic (NEWMAC) athlete, Benavente earned her second straight All-Conference honor after a First-Team appearance in 2018.

Emerson College freshman Oliver Glass sets record at championship race
Oliver Glass, a freshman member of the men's cross country team, ran the men's eight-kilometer race in 27:57 and finished in 38th place. This was the fastest time for the Lions since 2013.

Emerson Stage Presents: Stupid F##king Bird
Emerson College students participated in Emerson Stage's production of Stupid F##king Bird, that ran from September 26-29, 2019 at the Jackie Liebergott Black Box Theater in Boston, MA. Stupid F##king Bird is a play by Aaron Posner centering on an aspiring young director who rampages against the art created by his mother's generation, a nubile young actress wrestling with an aging Hollywood star for the affections of a renowned novelist, and everyone discovering just how disappointing love, art, and growing up can be.

Emerson Student-Athlete Named 'NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week'
Emerson College sohphomore Carolyn Vaimoso is back for the 2019 volleyball season after a serious knee injury last year. She now ranks third on the team in kills per set, second in digs per set, and recently claimed the titles of both Lion of the Week and New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference Defensive Athlete of the Week for the week of October 7th.

The Emerson Women's Volleyball Team defeated the Brandeis Judges (3-1) on Senior Day, where along with their victory, the team honored senior Jessica Braunstein. Braunstein finished her last home game of the season with 4 kills and 4 blocks.

Emerson poetry team takes home first place in national competition
Four Emerson students participated in, and took home a $1,200 first place cash prize from the 2019 VOX Pop Slam Poetry Tournament at Stark Brewing Company in New Hampshire this October. The competition is regarded on a national level, and is judged through both scale ratings and audience reaction. The team included Dessaline Etienne, Jane Cardona, Kayla LaRosa, and Lauren Licona, who all used personal stories, vulnerability, and creative expression to bring them to victory.

Award-winning journalist, speaker, and author Soledad O'Brien received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree and delievered the undergraduate commencement address. Award-winning scholar and writer Nell Irvin Painter, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, Emmy-nominated filmmaker, and theatrical producer Jose Antonio Vargas, and President of Miami Dade College Eduardo J. Padron also received honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degrees.

Emerson College Student Wins Jess Ilias Clavelli Comedy Award
Emerson College junior, Tova Tencer, was recently awarded the college's Jess Ilias Clavelli Comedy Award. With a cash prize of $1400, the award recognizes Tencer's merits as a comic performer and artist and is named for Jess Ilias Clavelli, the 6 year-old son of alum Christopher Clavelli ('83), who died suddenly in February of 2003.
