Students Participate in Production of Bonnets: How Ladies of Good Breeding Are Induced to Murder

Emerson Stage presented Bonnets: How Ladies of Good Breeding are Induced to Murder on November 8-11 at the Greene Theater. Written by Jen Silverman and directed by Annie G. Levy, this punk comedy production explores the consequences of societal expectations on women in the Victorian Era and their journey through breaking the rules.

Six members of the Emerson College Women's Soccer team earned a First Team All Conference honor from the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), recognizing outstanding individual play. The Lions reached the NEWMAC semifinals for the second time in two seasons.

Emerson College students earned Performing Arts awards, honored at the close of the 2022-2023 academic year. Emerson's mission is to train future leaders in arts, culture, and communication. The Department of Performing Arts' undergraduate and graduate programs encompass a core liberal arts curriculum, promote civic engagement, and demand that students create with clarity, integrity, and conviction. As a theatre artist at Emerson, students receive the necessary tools to focus creative talents towards a fulfilling career-and life-in the theatre.

Emerson College students earned Writing, Literature, & Publishing awards, honored in a variety of categories at the close of the 2022-2023 academic year. In the Department of Writing, Literature and Publishing, the symbiotic relationship between writing, publishing, and the study of literature becomes a shared experience of finding one's voice, refining one's talent, and gaining the skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today's evolving literary landscape. Emerson gives committed writers and aspiring publishers a deep practical and theoretical knowledge of the writer's art, literary history, and the workings of the publishing industry-the tools and training needed for a life devoted to literary pursuits.

Emerson College Students Participate in Emerson Stage Production The Loyals

Emerson College students participated in the Emerson Stage production of The Loyals, a comedy about treason, in conjunction with NewFest: New Play Workshop. Written by Allison Gregory and directed by Courtney Sale, the play took place March 30-April 2 in the Semel Theatre in Boston, MA. Play description: A divided young country in the midst of a Revolution. A bright, eighteen-year-old socialite who becomes the wife of infamous war-hero-turned-traitor Benedict Arnold. Together they set out to undo America.

Emerson College Students Participate in Emerson College Production of Cabaret

Emerson College Students participated in the Emerson Stage production of Cabaret. The musical takes place in a Berlin nightclub in the late 1920s and is a story about the danger of complacency during adversity -- a present and necessary warning. Cabaret credits: Book by Joe Masteroff, based on the play by John Van Druten, stories by Christopher Isherwood, music by John Kander, and lyrics by Fred Ebb. This production was directed by Ilana Ransom Toeplitz, with music direction by Sariva Goetz and choreography by Christopher Shin.

Emerson College students participated in Emerson Stage's NewFest: Short Works, a festival of short plays written, directed, and performed by Emerson College students, performed March 8 and 9 in the Semel Theatre in Boston, MA. Plays featured: What If, written by Althea Champion and directed by Brenda Huggins, Eternity 5, written by Madison Mondeaux and directed by Allison Taaffe, Biscotti, written by Rose Hanish and directed by Hannah Nilsson, The Rock, written by Jillian Hetherman and directed by Zach Fuller, Geese, Not Gooses, written by Jackson Bailey and directed by Jake Tolentino, Recollection - The Magnus Archives Adaptation, written by Alex Goldman and directed by Josh O'Brien, Plans/Places, written by Kimstelle Merisma and directed by Sofia Lindgren Galloway, and That Feeling, written by Fatima Jafar and directed by Kandyce Whittingham.

Emerson College Students Co-Executive Produce Production of Jelly's Last Jam

Emerson College students co- executive produced a production Jelly's Last Jam on Friday, March 31st, 2023, at the Semel Theater in Boston, MA. The musical featured an all-Black cast, which was very important to co-executive producers Jasmine Hawkins '23 and McKennen Campbell '23. Written by George C. Wolfe in 1991, Jelly's Last Jam follows the story of jazz pioneer Jelly Roll Morton. The performace begins with a recently deceased Jelly Roll who is conjured by a mysterious being named "Chimney Man" to relive his life. The story shares the joy, celebration, and contributions Black people have given to art.

Emerson College Students Inducted Into 2022-2023 Purple Key Leadership Society

Emerson College students were inducted into the Purple Key Leadership Society for the 2022-2023 academic year. The inductees were recognized at the annual Emerson Recognition & Achievement (ERA) Awards ceremony on Friday, April 14th, 2023, as well as in the 2023 commencement program at the College's graduation ceremony. Students who have earned a 3.0 or better cumulative grade point average, and who are in good social standing at the College were invited to submit an application for consideration. The recipients of this prestigious honor demonstrate exceptional leadership and service, a strong commitment to citizenship and civic engagement, solid academic achievement, and future leadership potential.

Emerson College Students Inducted Into 2022-2023 Gold Key Honor Society

Ninety-eight seniors and juniors were inducted into Emerson's Gold Key Honor Society on April 5th, 2023 in a ceremony in the Semel Theater located in Boston, Massachusetts. The Gold Key Honor Society is an interdisciplinary organization founded at Emerson in 1962 to "recognize and encourage outstanding academic achievement." Juniors in the top 5 percent of their class, and seniors in the top 10 percent of their class who have earned at least 48 credits are eligible.

Emerson College Students Perform at Open Mic Night For EmBrace Our HeArts Festival

Emerson College students performed at the Open Mic Night on March 26th, 2023 at SPC theatre, at Emerson College, Boston, Massachusetts. The event was part of the three-day EmBrace Our HeArts Festival, highlighting performance, film, and poetry. The final evening of the festival featured a book sale and open mic in partnership with Beacon Hill Books & Cafe. The open mic featured stories, poems, and more by students of color. A book truck provided a selection of books by authors of color for sale. The School of the Arts Dean's Fellows for Racial Equity and Leadership Development created the arts festival to celebrate diverse voices at Emerson. The festival showcased work across the Visual and Media Arts, Performing Arts, and Writing, Literature & Publishing departments.

Emerson College Men's Basketball Team Earns #2 Seed in NEWMAC Playoffs, Capping 2022 Season

The Emerson College Men's Basketball team ended its season, after earning the #2 seed in the NEWMAC playoffs, against Babson, with Babson defeating Emerson 69-64 on February 23rd, 2023, in a NEWMAC playoff game at Emerson College. The team had a 16-10 overall record, and an impressive record of 11-3 within NEWMAC, for 2022.

The 22nd annual Emerson Film Festival took place in the Bright Family Screening room in Paramount Center on March 22nd. The festival screened 12 short documentary, narrative, and experimental films made by Emerson students. The screening was followed by a live moderated conversation with student filmmakers as well.

Emerson College Student Writes Emerson Stage Production Mary, Sweet Mary

Emerson College student Munroe Shearer wrote the Emerson Stage production of Mary, Sweet Mary. The world premiere was held March 2-5, 2023 at the Greene Theater at Emerson College, Boston, MA. Each year, the Rod Parker Playwriting Fellowship is awarded to a student playwright, and their play is taken from page to stage. Mary, Sweet Mary tells the story of Queen Elizabeth I and her anxieties surrounding her legacy, duties, and how it manifests towards the people around her. Emerson Stage and the Department of Performing Arts are where the next generation of actors, designers, stage managers, technicians, administrators, and educators work alongside distinguished faculty, professional staff, and visiting artists to bring skills learned in the classroom to vibrant life on stage.
