Jamie Davenport of Washington, CT wins Emerson College Rod Parker Playwriting Award for her play "Woe Be Gone"

Jamie Davenport, of Washington, CT who completed her studies at Emerson College in fall 2015 for her Bachelor of Arts in Theater Studies: Acting, was selected for the Rod Parker Playwriting Award for her play titled "Woe Be Gone." The production is part of the NewFest New Works Festival -- a three week celebration featuring plays, songs, and dramatic work created by Emerson students.

This new work is about a family coming to terms with their mother's choices as she lives out the final days of her life. The Rod Parker Playwriting Award and NewFest were both funded by the generous support of Rod Parker '51. Parker wrote his first play while an undergraduate at Emerson College, and in 1991 made the Playwrights' Festival possible by creating an endowment to fund fellowships for student playwrights and support the first productions of their work.
