Emily Witt Featured in Emerson Stage's Commemorative Performance of "Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992"

2012 Feb 8

Washington, D.C.'s Emily Witt, a sophomore Design/Tech major at Emerson College, earned the role of Assistant Master Electrician in Emerson Stage's production of Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 premiering Thursday, February 23 at 8 p.m. and running through Sunday, February 26. Witt joins more than 40 fellow cast and crew members in this performance, directed by Benny Sato Ambush, which commemorates the 20th anniversary of the Los Angeles riots. The performances will take place in the Semel Theater at the Tufte Performance and Production Center (10 Boylston Place, Boston).

Written by Anna Deavere Smith, Twilight: Los Angeles, 1992 is a moving chronicle of the violent riots that followed the acquittal of four white Los Angeles police officers in the beating of Rodney King, an African American. Presented in the words of participants, victims, adversaries, and onlookers of the events, the story explores not only the disturbing trauma of the riots but also the underlying racial tensions within America.

Emerson College's Institute of Liberal Arts and Interdisciplinary Studies will host a forum for the Emerson community, "Why Los Angeles Exploded: Perspectives on the Urban Upheavals from 20 Years Out," on Wednesday, February 29 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. (Beard Room, Little Building, 80 Boylston St., Boston). Speakers include Emerson's Dean of Liberal Arts Amy Ansell; Writing, Literature and Publishing Lecturer Tamera Marko; School of Communication Leader-in-Residence Carole Simpson; and Boston College's Associate English Professor Min Hyoung Song.

Tickets for the performance are $12 for the public and $8 for the Emerson community.
